Almost Hogwarts

“Almost” is what I’d like to think … there’s a long way from my tarot classes to become Harry Potter’s British wizarding school. I would love to be in that place. But how did I learn to read tarot cards?

“Almost” is what I’d like to think … there’s a long way from my tarot classes to become Harry Potter’s British wizarding school. I would love to be in that place. But how did I learn to read tarot cards? The magician

My family has an esoteric tradition, passing the cards secret down from generation to generation. My grandmother was a famous French fortune-teller… I don’t think so! I already told you in this blog’s first article that my mother was a little spooked when I told her that I had been to a fortune teller (I was only 16). And that moving on, I’ve met several tarot readers, each with a different reading style, and that I’ve always loved these mystical subjects.

And for loving it so much, one fine day, years ago, I was looking for some activity to play as a hobby and I found some tarot lessons. I thought, “Hmm, that must be a lot of fun.” That’s how I ended up in a room at the back of a large mystic bookstore, with about twenty other people waiting for our first class to begin.

The teacher arrived and introduced himself… super nice and charismatic. A sweetheart. He then asked the students to speak a little about themselves and about any psychic experience they had in the past. One man said that once, he touched a raffle ticket that he wanted to buy, and the paper ticket instantly became really hot, almost burning his fingers. He was then certain that he would win with that ticket. And he did. One woman told us that she had premonitions. Another read Lenormand cards (“gypsy cards”). Some students just wanted to take the class out of curiosity. One girl said that she could talk to animals (I also talk to my Shitzu all day, but she listens and understands what they say… really! … like Eddie Murphy in “Dr. Dolittle”). I found it incredible that such classroom gathered so many people with different psychic experiences.

Every week we came back for another exciting class. We practiced reading short tarot spreads for each other. Sometimes in pairs, sometimes one person had a question and the whole class interpreted the reading together.

During the last class, one of the students asked the tarot: “Will we continue to see each other and be friends once this course is over?” The tarot‘s answer was very straightforward: “It’s up to you.” From then on, he took the initiative to collect names, phones, and emails, and to organize weekly meetings.

We practiced reading the spreads, discussed mystical matters and always had a “special guest” who participated in our meeting to have his/her cards read by the group. 8 of pentaclesAt each meeting we also shared our real world doubts and problems, safely exposed in that environment, just as if we were confiding to a group of therapists. Great friendships came out of this study group and we’re still in touch. Once in a while, I take other classes to learn special tarot techniques, and I end up meeting other interesting people.4 wands

Now that you know how it all started for me (regarding the tarot), I ask you: what do you love? What have you always wanted to learn and never started? Cooking classes for puppies? Tap dancing with the stars? Painting ceilings? How to create video games that burn calories?

So go ahead, research and find something that makes you happy! Begin these classes as soon as possible. Make new friends. People you feel good with. And who knows, maybe you’ll soon be telling us about your “Almost Cordon Bleu”, “Almost Picasso”, “Almost Broadway”.

The Stars of Lala Land

During this last Oscar season everyone was talking about LaLa Land, a musical in which boy meets girl and dance in the stars. For those who don’t know, that date took place at the famous Griffith Observatory – the planetarium and one of the most charming places in Los Angeles, where you can have a spectacular view of city and its lights.

If you are a mystic, a nerd or a fan of the universe, astronomy, astrology, tarot and everything else magical, I highly recommend that when you go to LA, you visit the Griffith. Besides its glamorous building, it also offers other attractions such as the telescope (from where I first saw Saturn) and the Planetarium theater show that you can’t miss, called “Centered in the Universe”, projected on the ceiling.

Another amazing attraction that many people are not aware of is that the Observatory promotes “Public Star Parties”. Once a month, several knowledgeable amateur astronomers bring their telescopes to the Griffith Gardens (with the assistance of volunteers from the Los Angeles Astronomical Society) to talk about the sky and to show the Sun, Moon, visible planets, and other objects to the general public.Griffith a noite

The Los Angeles Astronomical Society also sponsors other “Star Parties” outside of Griffith’s area. I was fortunate enough to participate in one of those with a “Meetup” Group (with about 30 people). We traveled to Mount Pinos National Park (approximately 2 hours away from Los Angeles) and arrived at the place where the astronomers would later set their equipment. Then we shared a potluck and went hiking.

Upon returning to the picnic spot, the astronomers were already installed with their powerful telescopes. A woman had a “sky chart”, and as the hours went by she taught us: “Now Jupiter is already visible … now you can also check the star XYZ …”. I’ve never seen a sky as clear and as starry in my life as the one I saw that night. We stayed there until almost 4 o’clock in the morning and then returned to the city.

And after showing the pictures and sharing this wonderful experience with a friend, he just looked at me and said: “Come on! Don’t people flirt during these parties?”. “I think so”, I replied rather surprised with his lack of interest and my naiveté. I did notice that a couple of people “self-abducted” themselves for a few hours that night… I also made some new friends, who hosted some dinner parties and other events. But that night, I only had eyes for the stars of LaLa Land!

Before I die

You’re at physiotherapy and hear the folowing remark from a guy on the bed just beside yours: “One thing I have asked from the LORD: that before I die I see a spirit and an ET! “.

You’re at physiotherapy, that mix of massage and relaxation (…Not! because you’re screwed and in pain) and hear the folowing remark from a guy on the bed just beside yours: “One thing I have asked from the LORD: that before I die I see a spirit and an ET! “.

Last week there was a a lot of noise because NASA announced the discovery of 7 Earth-like planets, all with the potential to have life. What naiveté (or even arrogance) to think that we are the only ones in the Universe. It is as if ants, in an anthill at the Amazon, spent their days debating if they are the only species of the entire forest.ant-holding-world-224x300

No, my dear ant friends, according to experts, there are approximately 2 million different species in this forest’s fauna, including more than 1,300 species of birds and 300 mammals. This is in the Amazon alone. And also no, my dear Earthling fellows. There are 8 planets in the Solar System and it is estimated that our galaxy, the Milky Way, has 100-400 billion stars. And nowadays, with the help of the Hubble Space Telescope, astronomers estimate 2 trillion galaxies in the Universe.

Assuming that each of these galaxies has at least 100 billion solar systems and that each of these has at least one planet … It’s a matter of pure math. Cracking the numbers on a bar paper napkin, after 2 beers:

1 planet x 100 billion stars x 2 trillion galaxies = do you really still think that we are the only ones, the smartest, the most advanced, the “Kings of the Universe”?

Sidekick or star of the show?

And as far as spirits go, I believe there are people who are born with the power to see them, like the kid from the Sixth Sense, but if they’re not born into a family of mediums, this can scare the hell out of them. Others can see nothing beyond the material world, but as they develop their spirituality, they may gradually have access to this other dimension.

Part of the esoteric literature explores the possibility of material and ethereal planets, like the book “Esoteric Buddhism”. Has it ever crossed your mind that when an ET dies it may also become a spirit?

So, dear physiotherapy neighbor, may God grant your heart’s desire, but hopefully that won’t also become your cause of death: fright. You finally see a spirit and an ET, but as you are not prepared for it, you literally get scared to death.around-her-chagall

One thing is certain: a person who makes this kind of comment is certainly prepared. I think his cause of death would probably be more of happiness, gratitude, and wonder.

Happiness to finally see that we are not alone, to see that life goes on, even on other realms. Gratitude for having guardian spirits who only want what’s best for us. And wonder to maybe find out that, just like in the movie “The Arrival,” there are ET’s helping the Earth survive such turmoil.

Thank God!

Politically incorrect tarot

In theory, the tarot is a personal oracle. But after your consultation, that curiosity hits: who will win the election?

In theory, the tarot is a personal oracle. But after your consultation, that curiosity hits: who will win the election?

In September 2014, when Dilma Rousseff* ran for her second presidential term, a client asked to see if she would win the election. I was a little uncomfortable, and replied that I had never used the cards for this kind of question. But she insisted, and I opened the spread. It showed that Dilma was losing badly, but that, at the very end, she would take a 180 degrees turn and win. And that’s exactly what happened. Dilma was elected president.medieval-scapini-deck-the-empress

In October 2016, another client in New York, after her consultation (yes, tarot works through Skype!), worried about the American elections, asked to see if Hillary would be elected. She, a declared liberal, was thrilled when the answer was a beautiful YES. She decided to poke the tarot further, and asked, “Now check Trump”. The result was very positive as well, and I, confused, could never imagine that the two of them could really win the election, I tried to interpret what, in my mind, was absurd: “It’s very good for Trump too. I can only imagine that, since he works with entertainment and reality shows, he will take some advantage of the presidential race and promote himself, make good money,… uhh… I don’t know …”.

And what do we learn from these two situations?

First, regarding the US, the mistake was the inaccuracy of the question, which should have been, “Will Hillary be the next president?” or, “Will Trump be the next president?” This way, even if Hillary won the popular vote, and Trump, the Electoral College, the tarot could give the precise answer. Open-ended questions lead to inaccurate answers.

But, what about Dilma’s case, that the question was accurate?medieval-scapini-deck-the-emperor

Knowing the near future doesn’t mean having the key to it all. Dilma was re-elected at the end of October 2014, but about a year and a half later, at the end of August 2016, the Senate approved her impeachment.

Conclusion: don’t try to find out everything that will happen. The tarot gives you a hint. But when the future is concealed and you’re not allowed to know what really is going to happen, it doesn’t matter the answer, because in a second, everything can change.

But then you insist: What will happen to this Trump term?

Only God knows!
